MARINE CORPS ORGANIZATIONS

Tim joined the Marine Corps in 1956, served on active duty from 1959 to 1962, and was honorably discharged in 1970 having attained the rank of Captain. Military service transformed Tim and profoundly influenced his core values, personal traits, and character. The Foundation has provided funding to a variety of Marine Corps related organizations including:

  • The SEMPER FI & AMERICA’S FUND since 2004.  The Foundation established the Tim and Sandy Day Canine Companions program, which provides service dogs and related care to Marines in need.
  • The MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION since 2005. The Foundation initiated the Day Scholars Program, which provides additional educational assistance to outstanding college seniors and includes a mentoring program.
  • The MARINE CORPS UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION since 2005, with a focus on the case method of instruction.
  • Marine Corps Fellowships at HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL, where the Foundation has two ongoing programs.  First, the Timothy T. Day Marine Corps Entrepreneur Fellowship was established in 2005 to provide financial support to distinguished MBA students who had demonstrated hands-on leadership as Marine officers – particularly those who have served in combat operations and have a manifest interest in entrepreneurship.  The vision of this Fellowship is to assist outstanding Marines to become superior leaders in the free-enterprise system and the Nation.  Second, the Timothy T. Day Marine Corps Executive Education Fellowship was established in 2011 to fund the attendance of senior officers in the Advanced Management Program.  It is awarded to career officers who have demonstrated exceptional leadership – particularly those who have served in combat operations and are recognized as having great potential as future leaders of the Marine Corps.  The vision of this Fellowship is to build a cadre of senior officers who will leverage this unique educational experience to strengthen, in some measure, the great capabilities and legacy of the Marine Corps.
  • The MARINE CORPS ASSOCIATION & FOUNDATION since 2015. The Foundation has contributed funds to this organization to support the Commanders’ Forum Program.
  • The MARINE CORPS HERITAGE FOUNDATION since 2002. The Foundation has funded several important projects over the years, including: the Tarawa Exhibit in the main entry gallery of the National Museum of the Marine Corps in 2004; the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel located on the grounds of the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park and dedicated in 2009; the Timothy T. Day Overlook located on the grounds of the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park and dedicated in 2015; the lead gift for the expansion of the National Museum of the Marine Corps to provide galleries and exhibits portraying the modern era of Marine Corps history with groundbreaking in 2015; and the commitment in 2021 to fund a Pavilion as part of the planned expansion of the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park.
