Saturday, May 6, 2017, Tim Day celebrated his 80th birthday which was hosted at Donovan’s Steak and Chop House in Phoenix, AZ. The guest list included family, long-time friends, colleagues from Bar-S Foods, many respected Marines, including several Fellowship recipients and their spouses, plus some old comrades. The cocktail hour was spent mingling, reconnecting, and a welcome speech was presented by his wife, Sandy, to greet the guests and introduce a video presentation showing a brief snapshot of Tim’s life. Next, a formal seated dinner was enjoyed, along with many laughs and much storytelling. After dinner, as tradition merits, Tim was presented his birthday cake. He made his wish and blew out his eight, not eighty, birthday candles.
Leslie then took on the role as “master of ceremonies” and introduced several guest speakers who gave “roast-style” speeches. As with most roasts, good humor and countless jabs were taken at the expense of Tim and his lifelong antics. While some pokes were clean jest, others were less than clean – all in the spirit of fun. And those guests too kind to take a poke at Tim, offered kind and generous tributes in his honor. Tim took it all in good stride, and welcomed the endearing memories, along with those he might care to forget – and closed with a comedic monologue regarding his new octogenarian status. After the presentations, everyone was directed to the bar and the night of festivity continued. All in all, it was a memorable evening and marked a well-celebrated turn of eight noteworthy decades.
