Sandy was born in Phoenix, Arizona and is a third generation Arizonan. She attended Chandler High School and graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
She met Tim Day on a blind date in 1988. They were married in 1997 at the Hyatt Regency at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona, while the Hale-Bopp comet smiled down on their ceremony giving its celestial blessing. Little did she know in 1997, that years later they would embark on a journey of philanthropy to include animal rescue.
In 2004, a little 1.5 pound pug puppy named Lulu joined the Day family. Named after Sandy’s grandmother’s first pug, Lulu Belle, their Lulu quickly transformed their lives and things were forever changed. Tim had always been a “big dog” type of guy, but Lulu quickly changed his heart and mind!
Lulu went to the Rainbow Bridge on June 28, 2019 at the age of 15 years old. She was a great source of joy for Tim and Sandy, as well as Sandy’s mom, affectionately known as “Lu’s G”. She is greatly missed and will forever be known as “our puppy”.
Sandy’s love for Lulu led her to the rescue community, which ultimately led the Timothy T. Day Foundation to create Lulu’s Fund in early 2012. Lulu’s Fund has grown to provide financial support to over 30 rescue organizations throughout the country. The Foundation gains tremendous satisfaction from being involved with dog and animal rescue organizations and looks forward to seeing their rescue family grow for many years to come.
Sandy’s roots will always be in Arizona, but she finds great beauty and peace of mind in the mountains of Jackson, Wyoming, and the ocean waves of La Jolla, California and feels lucky to call each one home. She enjoys hiking, biking, yoga, finding a great podcast to listen to, and the occasional retail therapy.
Sandy’s greatest joys are found in spending time with family, friends and her beloved pets. She knows God has blessed her with many great gifts and is very thankful.
