LtGen James H. Adams III

Our eighteenth recipient, Lieutenant General James H. Adams III, completed the AMP at Harvard Business School in October 2016.  Jim is a highly decorated Marine aviator, currently serving as the Deputy Commandant for Programs and Resources.  His previous assignments were with Joint Staff J8, Deputy Director for Requirements and Capability Development and   Headquarters Marine Corps, Combat Development & Integration.  Before that, the Commanding Officer of Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One in Yuma, AZ.  After completing flight school, Jim was designated a Naval Aviator in 1993 and selected to fly the AH-1 Cobra as his primary aircraft.  He has flown combat missions in both Afghanistan and Iraq and served as Commander of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367.  His staff assignments include Head, Strategic Assessment Branch, Programs & Resources, Headquarters Marine Corps in the Pentagon; Defense Requirements Analyst for the Joint Staff; two tours as a Weapons and Tactics Instructor; and various aircraft group and squadron billets in logistics, operations, and maintenance.  Jim graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1991, with a BS in Computer Science; additionally, earning a MS in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the Joint Advanced Warfighting School in Norfolk, VA.

Jim and his wife, Julia, have three children.
