Our thirty-ninth recipient, Brigadier General James W. Lively, completed the AMP at Harvard Business School in October 2022. Jim currently serves as the Assistant Division Commander, 2d Marine Division. Previous operational commands include Director, Expeditionary Warfare School, Commanding Officer, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Commanding Officer, Battalion Landing Team 2/6, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Previous staff assignments include Assistant Chief of Staff/G9 at I Marine Expeditionary Force, and Infantry Advocate and Ground Combat Element Branch Head at HQMC, Plans, Policies, and Operations. Other staff assignments include a tour as a Congressional Fellow with a U.S. Representative on the House Armed Services Committee, faculty instructor at the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School, and Operations Officer at the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Jim attended Texas A&M University and earned Master’s degrees from Troy University and the National War College. He also attended the French War College in Paris, France.
Jim and his wife, Ariel, have one daughter.
