Our forty-third recipient, Colonel Steven M. Sutey, completed the AMP at Harvard Business School in October 2023. Steven currently serves with the Programs and Resources department, Headquarters Marine Corps and is the former Commanding Officer of 2d Marines, an infantry regiment based in Camp Lejeune, NC. He previously served as a Senior Military Fellow at the Center for a New American Security. A career infantryman, Steven’s service in the Marine Corps has included amphibious and expeditionary operations around the globe. He has led units that responded to crises and contingencies in the South Pacific and Middle East, commanded forces engaged in ground combat and counter-insurgency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, partnered with the Australian Army as the commander of Marine Rotational Force-Darwin, and supported the Department of Homeland Security along the southwest border of the United States. Steven also has mentored midshipmen at the University of North Carolina and Duke University, led platoons at Officer Candidates School, developed service strategy for the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and authored military strategy and global war plans for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon. Steven majored in history at La Roche College and has earned Master’s degrees from North Carolina State University, the Marine Corps University’s School of Advanced Warfighting, and the National Defense University’s Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.
Steven and his wife Kelly, a former Naval officer, have two daughters.
