LtGen Stephen Sklenka

Our eighth recipient, Lieutenant General Stephen Sklenka, completed the AMP at Harvard Business School in May 2014.  Steve currently serves as the Deputy Commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in Hawaii.  He has led Marines and Sailors at multiple levels throughout his career with command tours as a Platoon Commander; Company Commander of three companies; Combat Logistics Battalion Commander; the Commanding Officer of Combat Logistics Regiment – 15, the Logistics Combat Element of Regional Command Southwest in Helmand Province, Afghanistan; and the Commanding General of 1st Marine Logistics Group.  His combat and deployment history include Operation Just Cause in Panama; Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the liberation of Kuwait; Operation Restore Hope conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) operations in Somalia; HA/DR actions along the United States Gulf Coast; Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq’s Al Anbar Province and in the North Arabian Gulf; and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province.  Steve’s staff tours include J5 Director of Strategy and Plans for U.S. Indo-Pacific Command; Principal Director, South and Southeast Asia for Asia & Pacific Security Affairs in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy; Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commandant for Installations and Logistics at Headquarters, Marine Corps; Deputy Logistics Officer for United States Special Operations Command; Branch Head in Plans, Policy, and Operations at Headquarters, Marine Corps; and instructor duty at The Basic School. Steve graduated with distinction from the Marine Corps’ Amphibious Warfare School where he also received the Combat Service Support Honor Graduate award. He is a distinguished graduate of the Naval Command and Staff College; is a graduate of the Air War College Nonresident Program; and was a Commandant of the Marine Corps Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.  He has a BS in History from the United States Naval Academy; a MA in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College; and a MA in Unconventional Warfare/Special Operations Low Intensity Conflict from American Military University.  Steve and his wife, Lauren, have one daughter.
