The Foundation’s first Marine Corps Harvard Business School Fellows “Tribe” Reunion was a hit. The reunion took place in Quantico, VA, on October 11-13, 2019, and was attended by over 50 people, including members of the Foundation and Day Family Office, MBA and AMP Fellows and their spouses and significant others.
The reunion festivities kicked off with a Friday night group dinner at Globe & Laurel in Stafford, VA. It was a fun night and guests enjoyed catching up with friends they hadn’t seen a while. On Saturday morning, the group headed to Marine Corps University, and former Chair of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, Ranjay Gulati, facilitated a case study discussion on Netflix. Ranjay did an outstanding job – he made the discussion interesting, kept the group engaged, and successfully applied the case learnings to the culture of the Marine Corps. Saturday afternoon was spent at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The group toured the Museum, focusing on the new exhibits that were open, and then went to the Medal of Honor Theater to view the film, “We, The Marines.” The film was extraordinary and offered an unforgettable glimpse into the first-hand experiences of America’s “first responders” and what it takes to serve as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. After the film, there were very few dry eyes in the room. The Saturday evening events continued at the Museum with cocktails at the Tun Tavern, followed by a beautiful catered dinner in the Medal of Honor 2nd Deck Theater Lobby. Highlights of Saturday night included a presentation by Tim who gave a special tribute to all the MBA and AMP Fellows, and a heartfelt speech by our keynote speaker General James Amos, USMC (Ret), who spoke about Tim’s philanthropy and generosity to the Marine Corps and the legacy he leaves behind.
On Sunday, some of our early morning guests appreciated the beautiful fall weather and went on a hike in Prince William Forest Park. The entire group enjoyed Sunday brunch together followed by a “Tribe” Meeting where the Fellowship recipients gave a brief – but very personal and often moving – update on what’s been happening in their lives. The meeting ended around 2:00pm, the group said their good-byes and departed for their homes.
We’re positive the reunion sparked some old memories and created some new ones. It was wonderful to see everyone and we look forward to seeing everyone at the next reunion.
Visits to other Marine Corps Organizations
While in the Quantico and Washington D.C. area, the Foundation and Day Family Office had meetings with Marine Corps University, Marine Corps University Foundation, Marine Corps Association Foundation, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, and Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. During these meetings, each organization provided an update on their activities with specific emphasis on how the funds provided by the Foundation are benefiting their needs. During this trip, we were also fortunate to visit the Pentagon and meet with Secretary of the Navy, Richard Spencer, and the 38th Commandant, General David Berger.
